#MySMCStory will not have an end as I have just started the journey and there is a long way to go.Quite philosophical way to start!SMCPune chapter happened because we felt a need to connect with our fellow marketeers in Pune.There are lot of clubs, associations, networking meetups focused towards entrepreneurs but we wanted to bring something specifically for marketing folks.
What was the trigger ? Early last year , I came across a meetup which focused towards ” Social Media and Business Branding in B2B “. Purpletalk who were organizing this event in Pune were looking for a place.The date was not getting firmed up because of lack of place.I really wanted to attend this meetup ( as this was my first one and I wanted to connect with other people :-) ) so I talked to my boss if we could do this in our conference room.He agreed and we did that meetup in my office.Though the attendance was not so great but the “trigger” happened.
What happened next ? Now after this meetup , I wanted to organise a meetup wherein we could have a local hero and by which I could connect to more people.I was following Doolally for quite some time and was really impressed by the initiatives of Suketu Talekar.I sent a tweet to them requesting Suketu to be the speaker.He directed me towards Shri (popularly known as MrShri ) advising me that he is the best guy who can help me out in this (and indeed he is).Before I could react to that tweet, Shri tweeted back and was eager to talk on that.We met and discussed in detail on Social Media activities in Pune and we both agreed that we need our own club.SMCPune was already formed in 2009 but it was inactive.We both worked on a plan to reactivate SMCpune’s twitter account.
So now the next step was to get in touch with SMC global folks.Jessica was very helpful in retrieving the password for the twitter account.We got that worked out and on 3 June 2011 we started with our twitter activities.One thing followed another; our Facebook page was setup, LinkedIn group formed, blog posts started on Social Media Club Pune Chapter , YouTube channel initaited and more recently we joined Google Plus ( not to forget the stories we cover and our newsletter )
You can see its a short and sweet start, I would say the Prologue , story will take some time to start ! Every story also involves key characters and here you will find Shri and all our evangelists who support us in each and every initiative and yes their characters will evolve further more !
